The Rouergue is a business and leisure destination. It is connected to the world via the Toulouse Lyon motorway that crosses France through the Massif Central mountain chain. The region is abundant with natural resources such as silver, iron and copper as well as local products such as knives, wine, fine leather, coins and state coinage. After a royal decree at the end of the thirteenth century forbidding the usage of the precious metal silver, it was then smuggled into Geneva Switzerland where it was smelted in foundries. Hence the origin of the name the Route d’Argent, meaning “The Silver Way” is where we are located.
